A 25-year-old software engineer sustained minor injuries after an unidentified man slashed her hand with a blade while she was travelling in a bus. The incident took place at Kudlu Gate, near Mangammanapalya, on Thursday.
Sneha, a resident of Begur, boarded the company bus to her workplace in the morning. She took a seat by the window. When the bus stopped at a traffic signal, an unidentified man slashed her hand with a blade. Though she alerted her colleagues in the bus, they were unable to apprehend the attacker. Sneha was taken to a hospital and treated as an outpatient.
In the evening, the alleged attacker was caught by passers-by when he attempted to slash another woman in Anekal. He approached the woman, who was standing at a bus stop waiting for her bus, with a blade and tried to swipe at her. Fortunately, she escaped unscathed and shouted for help. Immediately, people in the area surrounded the man, beat him up and handed him over to the local police.
The Bandepalya police have identified the accused as Biranch, 26, from Odisha. He has been living in Bengaluru for a little over a year and works as an assistant in a catering firm. “We have taken him into custody but suspect that he is mentally unstable. He will be subjected to further medical examination,” a senior police officer said.
