GHMC deploys 464 vehicles to lift and transport animal waste

Civic officials have swung into action for Id-ul-Zuha or Bakr-Id to be celebrated on Saturday in the city.

On Friday, the police had a tough time managing the traffic flow at Mehdipatnam, Rethibowli, Karwan, Attapur, Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta and many other parts of old city as a large number of sheep traders set up makeshift stalls for Id.

In areas like Ziyaguda, Rethibowli, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam and Aramghar where sheep traders were doing brisk business, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has deployed mini trucks to clean up the area at frequent intervals. To handle animal waste, leftover food, organic waste and animal droppings, the GHMC officials have distributed 150,000 large black polythene bags in select areas to help clean the waste. The civic body has also deployed 464 vehicles, including heavy duty earth movers, to lift and transport animal waste on the day of Id.

Short film

A few citizens have made a short film on celebrating a clean Id. Written by Tawseef Qazi, the three-minute clip shows a senior citizen driving home the point of dumping animal waste in a responsible way to prevent polluting the environment. A number NGOs have also bandied together as ‘Team Bakreid’ to create awareness on celebrating a festival without polluting the environment.

Workers of NGOs in areas like New Hafeezpet, Miyapur, Hydernagar, Kishen Bagh and Kala Pathar went about creating awareness on cleanliness. One of the slogans read: Bakreid ke din ek aur zimmedari mohallay ke safai ho hamari (On Bakr Id, we have an additional responsibility to keep our locality clean).

For Saturday, the police officials have imposed traffic curbs near designated congregation prayer areas like Miralam Idgah, Mecca Masjid and Balamarai Idgah, Secunderabad, between 8 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.
