BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, who has been on night inspections since August 27 to monitor the pothole-filling drive in the city, has attributed bad roads to frequent road cutting by several public and private agencies.

Prasad said agencies like Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom), telecom operators, optical fibre cable service providers and pipelines laid by GAIL were damaging roads.

He has requested the agencies to restore the road after their work is completed. Prasad told DH, “Irresponsible road cutting by government agencies and private telecom agencies and incomplete restoration work is leading to damage.”

Prasad and his team of officials were on an inspection drive of the six zones. The inspection came to an end on Thursday night.

Restoration works
Kemparamaiah, engineer in chief of BWSSB, said, “Whenever we dig up roads or footpaths, we make sure it is restored by paying back the fee for restoring the road to its original condition. This is included in the project fund. We take permission from BBMP and restoration is done by BBMP.” Kemparamaiah also asked BBMP not to generalise the issues and blame BWSSB for road cutting.
