Thursday saw the heaviest spell of season

The Capital received 59 mm of rainfall between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, the heaviest spell of rain in the city this season.

Nine-hour period

Areas under Lodhi Road, Palam, Ayanagar and the Ridge received 42.6 mm, 23.8 mm, 35.3 mm and 22.6 mm of rainfall respectively in the same period.

Officials at the Meteorological Department said, “The weather station at Safdarjung, which is the official reading for the city, recorded 59 mm of rainfall, which is the highest this season for a nine-hour period.”

The weather department has forecast rain for the next two days as well. As per the forecast, “Generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/ thundershowers likely to occur on Friday, and light rain likely on Saturday and Sunday.

The heavy rain brought the maximum temperature down to 32.2 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below the season’s average, while the minimum settled at 26.6 degrees Celsius. The humidity level oscillated between 100% and 76%. “The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 32 and 25 degrees respectively on Friday,” the weatherman said.
