KOCHI: The Malayalam Wiki Community, IT@School project, Centre for Internet Society, and the India Chapter of Wikimedia together organised a two-day training programme on the Wikimedia’s recent venture, Wikidata, at the regional training centre of IT@School near Changampuzha Park.
Asaf Bartov, senior programme officer at Wikimedia, led the programme in which the advantages of the new database were explained. He said while Wikipedia called for the updating of each article individually and separately for each language, Wikidata provided for automation whereby an update, done using a specific code in a language, got reflected across the database, across languages.
“It is structured and linked and will be available for free and across a range of devices and apps,” he said, calling upon the Malayalam Wiki community to contribute generously to the database.
Mr. Bartov, on his first visit to Kerala, will be travelling across the country conducting similar training sessions.
