Copper inscriptions of Ganga era unearthed

Copper inscriptions belonging to Ganga dynasty were unearthed during the renovation works of a Jain Basadi at Halebelagola in the taluk, on Friday.
The 15 bunches of copper inscriptions have ancient Kannada script. In all, there are 105 copper plates said, Assistant Director of Archaeological department N L Gowda.
Speaking to DH, Gowda said, "The copper inscriptions dates back to 8th and 10th century. As inscriptions of elephants are found on the plates, it might belong to Gangas period.
The copper plates colour has changed due to chemical reactions. It would be tested in the laboratory. A study would be conducted on the scripts and a report will be submitted within two months, he said.
Tahsildar Somashekar too visited the spot.
