The BJP is organizing a public meeting at the Telangana Martyrs Memorial in Parkal on Saturday from where party State president K. Laxman will be starting his week-long tour.
Warangal rural unit president A. Ashok Reddy and State general secretary G. Premender Reddy said the tour would cover the villages and districts where the people were butchered by the Nizam Army on August 15, 1947 to stop merger of Telangana with Indian Union.
The BJP has been demanding that the State government celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao during the movement for Statehood for Telangana too demanded official celebration of Telangana Liberation Day but after assuming power, he changed tack.
“Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao is not agreeing to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day only to please his political friends the MIM party,” Mr. Premender Reddy said pointing out that both Karnataka and Maharashtra governments are organizing official functions on the day.
The tour by Mr. Laxman was aimed at mobilizing peoples’ support for official celebration of the occasion.
The BJP leaders appealed to people to take part in large numbers at the public meeting at Parkal on Saturday. It will be attended by Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya.
The party will also hold a massive public meeting at Nizamabad on September 17 which will be attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, they said.
