BJP says AAP ‘betrayed’ Delhiites

more-in

The BJP on Thursday accused the AAP government of betraying the citizens of Delhi, alleging that it had not made any effort to reduce the power tariffs in the Capital over its 31 months in power.

It also alleged that the government misled people about the audit of the accounts of power companies.

BJP president Manoj Tiwari alleged that although the government had not shown any hike in the power tariff directly, due to changes made indirectly in the rates of fixed surcharge, the private companies would get benefits between ₹35 and ₹40 crore.

Return on equity

“The Kejriwal government could have decreased the power tariff by 10 to 15% by reducing the return on equity at the present bank rates but the government favours the private power companies instead of giving relief to the people,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said that despite poll promises and regular assurances, power bills of Delhiites were set to go up from tomorrow with the DERC revising power tariffs in the city.

Additional burden

Mr. Gupta alleged that the three discoms together had quoted an aggregate revenue requirement of ₹21,624 crore, which was going to put an additional burden of ₹1,250 crore on citizens.
