Wait for your turn and abide by whatever the party decides. This was JD(S) leader H D Revanna’s advice to his son Prajwal, who has publicly expressed his intent to contest the 2018 Assembly elections.
Prajwal (27) has said he wants to be the JD(S) candidate from either Belur (Hassan), Hunsur (Mysuru) or Rajarajeshwari Nagar (Bengaluru city) Assembly constituencies. “I took 15 years to become MLA. Even H D Deve Gowda (former prime minister) took 18 years to become a minister. Prajwal is a party worker now and he needs to have patience,” Revanna told reporters on Friday.
The final decision on fielding Prajwal or anyone else as party candidates for the 2018 polls will be taken by Deve Gowda and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy, Revanna added. “No one can teach Deve Gowda how to do politics. He knows where the bombs must be dropped. Everybody said (my wife) Bhavani will be given the ticket from the Belur constituency. Was she given the ticket finally? No,” Revanna said.
The former minister said he was a “foot soldier” in the party, when asked why his name was missing in the latest list of JD(S) office bearers. “I don’t need to be on any list. I have served in various capacities in the past. I will remain in politics so long as Deve Gowda does. After that, I’ll stay at home,” he said.
The JD(S) will form the next government, Revanna said, and Kumaraswamy will become the chief minister. “The first thing we will do is waive farmers’ loans. We know how to mobilise financial resources to do that,” he said.
