Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan on Friday gave more indications to his entry in politics but stopped short of discussing details of possible affiliations.
“I will only be announcing it, not discussing it with you,” he said while responding to reporters’ questions on the course of action regarding his political entry. Maintaining that he liked to be in the “middle of things” without leaning sideways, Kamal said his political colour was “definitely not saffron”.
Asked about his meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan earlier in the day, Kamal said he had taken Vijayan’s advice (on politics) and would talk to more such leaders before taking a call. The actor who has in the past been vocal about his appreciation for Vijayan said Kerala should be proud of its CM. He said Kerala, with its limited financial resources, was pushing for living standards that match western countries.
Earlier, the actor met Vijayan at the CM’s official residence. It was termed a courtesy visit but politics did figure in the conversation, Kamal confirmed to reporters after the meeting.
The actor called the visit a learning experience. “For me, it’s an educational tour. I was expected to be here last Onam but I couldn’t due to an accident. This year, I’m making it happen,” he said.
Vijayan said politics – “generally in the south, and particularly in Tamil Nadu” – was discussed during the meeting. Kamal was meeting Vijayan for the first time after the latter took charge as Chief Minister.
