Nearly 50 members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) led by Coimbatore zonal president S. Mustafa staged a protest in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday against the State Government for letting down medical aspirants in the NEET issue.

The party said in a release that the State Government had not exerted enough pressure on the Central Government to exempt medical aspirants in the State from getting admitted to seats in medical colleges based on NEET score.

The Centre had betrayed the State in that it first refused to provide any exemption to students from Tamil Nadu. Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that if the State Government desired an exemption, it could pass an ordinance.
