Kamal Hassan underwent rigorous training to pull off the dwarf look in the popular Hindi Film ‘ Appu Raja’, but the same look was played to perfection by five children as they matched their beats to the peppy song ‘ Gasolina’ by the pop singer Daddy Yankee.
The energetic performance was one of the major highlights on the concluding day of the DH in Education’s inter-school dance competition on Thursday.
While this performance has the audience asking for more, performances on the Karnatic version of the English popular track ‘Shape of You’ received reverberating applause from the audience.
The teams showed off their incredible skills at flexibility and acrobatics. A common thread across the event was that of patriotism that struck a chord with everyone. A popular English number was performed by a team that wore costumes on the various dances of the country.
Colourful ribbons, trishulas, conch shells, placards, hulahoops were some of the many innovative props used by the children in their performances. Some of the performances also had a beautiful story to tell.
A performance by a group of girls showcased how the life of five poor girls who made a living by begging changed after a dancer sees them and takes them under her care. She teaches them dance and they go on to participate in major dance competition after a few months giving a tough competition to other participants.
A lot of the performances ended on positive messages like‘ save the girl child’, ‘educate children, ‘ Saluting our soldiers’, ‘ loving our parents’; among many others.
Most of the teams comprised of girls who performed stunts and acrobatics on the stage thereby proving their mettle and showing that girls are no lesser than boys when it comes to flexibility and physical strength. The show ended on a reverberating applause from the audience.
