Cabinet expansion on Friday

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will expand his Cabinet by filling the three vacancies on Friday.

Governor Vajubhai Vala will administer the oath of office at Rai Bhavan at 5 p.m. on Friday, sources in the State secretariat told The Hindu.

Legislative Council members H.M. Revanna, who belongs to the Kuruba community, R.B. Thimmapur from the Dalit Left community, and MLA Geetha Mahadeva Prasad, wife of former Minister late H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, are likely to be inducted in the Cabinet.

Mr. Thimmapur was the Minister for Planning, Institutional Finance/Statistics in the S.M. Krishna government. Mr. Revanna too served as the Silk Minister in the Congress government led by Mr. Krishna. Ms. Prasad recently won the bye-elections to the Gundlupet constituency of the Chamarajanagar district that was held following the death of her husband Mahadeva Prasad.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who recently visited New Delhi, had held discussions on the Cabinet expansion with party high command and K.C. Venugopal, All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Karnataka.
