Five Haryana police personnel, who were part of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s security, were on Thursday dismissed from service for allegedly attempting to help the Dera chief escape.
Haryana Director-General of Police B.S. Sandhu told reporters that the five policemen had been dismissed.
“We have also arrested Diman Insaan, a Dera functionary, who was booked on sedition charge,” he said. The accused had been sent to seven-day police remand by a court in Panchkula.
Mr. Sandhu said no untoward incident had been reported in the State and the overall ground situation was largely peaceful.
The five police personnel allegedly attempted to help the Dera chief escape on August 25, after he was convicted in a rape case by a special CBI court. The Panchkula police had charged these police personnel and two private security guards of the Dera chief with sedition.
They allegedly made an attempt to free Gurmeet when he was brought outside the Panchkula Court complex, the police said.
IPC sections
All the accused were booked under several Sections of the IPC for obstructing government officers from discharging their duty, assaulting a public servant and waging war against the state.
The arrested personnel were in the ranks of sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, head constable and constable.
Haryana had witnessed deadly violence after Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted in a rape case by the special CBI court on August 25, leaving 36 people dead and injuring over 250 people.
