'Is Congress ok for Gujarat? Never!.Only BJP works in Gujarat' - large hoardings carrying this common catchline have emerged in several parts of the city in the run up to Assembly polls in the state that are likely to be held by year end.
While the state BJP unit claimed that the advertisement campaign was not launched by them, Congress dubs it as ruling party's threat to the opposition ahead of the Assembly polls.
In these pro-BJP ads, Congress has been blamed for stalling Narmada project, diluting peaceful atmosphere and indulging in corruption for 60 years.
These hoardings, have apparently emerged during the last few days in at least three major spots in the city -- Satellite, Shivranjani and near Ambawadi.
One of the advertisement says "Will Congress work if we want to preserve Gujarat's peaceful atmosphere?..Never! Only BJP works in Gujarat.
Another says "Does Congress, which stalled Narmada project, works in Gujarat? No. Only BJP works in Gujarat.
While the BJP claimed the hoardings were not put up by them, Congress accused the ruling party of hijacking their idea and converting it into a negative campaign against the Congress.
"These hoardings were not put up by BJP. We have learned that some NGO has done that. But, whatever issues highlighted in these hoardings are genuine and reveal the truth. There is nothing wrong if someone wants to draw people's attention to such issues," said Gujarat BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya.
Reacting to BJP's claim, state Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi claimed the ad campaign was inspired by their own social media campaign against BJP government.
"These hoardings were indeed put up by BJP to counter our social media campaign, in which, we raised issues of unemployment, price rise and arrogance by leaders. Now, BJP has hijacked our idea and came up with this ad campaign," said Doshi.
"While our social media campaign was issue-based, people-centric and not aimed at targetting any party, BJP has turned it into a negative one and targetted Congress as if they are threatening us through these ads," claimed Doshi.
