The alleged failure of a 7-year-old student to answer the attendance call irked a teacher so much that she rained blows on the boy even as others watched in horror, in a private school here.
The matter came to light on Thursday after a video clip of the incident became viral on the social networking sites. The school management has sacked the teacher following the incident.
The sources said Rakesh Kumar (name changed), a class 3 student failed to answer the attendance as he was busy drawing.
Enraged over this behaviour, the teacher slapped him repeatedly and banged his head against the black board even as he pleaded for mercy. The clip shows her slapping the kid dozens of times.
"I was engrossed in making a drawing...I could not hear when my roll number was called," the boy said. He suffered injuries to his face and head.
His father lodged a complaint with the principal onWednesday, but the teacher denied beating the boy. However, the CCTV footage revealed the truth.
Though the teacher begged to forgive her, the school management dismissed her. “Such a behaviour cannot be tolerated,” the school principal said. A case has been registered and the police are probing the matter.
