Party trying to complete process through consensus

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president M.M. Hassan has said that the reconstitution of the KPCC and District Congress Committees (DCC) will be completed by September 30 through consensus.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Hassan said pradesh returning officer Sudarshan Nachiappan was in the process of holding talks with DCC leaders and senior party leaders. The main aim was to complete the election process through consensus. The DCCs too had been asked to take the consensus route while overseeing the revamp of lower-level committees.

Mr. Hassan did not agree with the view that the time frame for conducting Indira family meetings, which were to have concluded on August 31, had been extended because of the poor response from the party workers. He said the family meetings were being conducted in an elaborate manner. Some of the lower-level committee found it difficult to find suitable dates to conduct the meetings. Besides, there was nothing wrong in giving the extension, which was upto October 31, the date on which Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984.

Mr. Hassan criticised the State government for messing up the admissions and fee issue in private self-financing medical colleges. He wanted the Health Minister to resign owning up responsibility for the faux pas and dashing the hopes of thousands of aspiring students.
