A peer team from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) went around the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) campus here on Tuesday to inspect the physical infrastructure as well as scrutinise the academic quality.
As part of its five-day visit to inspect the varsity campus and its various affiliated colleges located across the State, the experts first inspected the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex in the city centre. Later, the team comprising Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS) former Vice-Chancellor A.K. Gahlot, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI Izat Nagar) former Joint Director of Bacteriology and Mycology Rishendra Verma and Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries Research (Bhimtal Uttarakhand) Director A.K. Singh took a stroll around the campus by visiting the departments like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, the State-level diagnostic laboratory, the College of Dairy Technology and the newly-opened ‘Ksheera Bhavan’, meant to house the dairy plant.
Vice-Chancellor Y. Hari Babu and, deans T. Chandrasekhar Rao (Veterinary), V. Padmanabha Reddy (Dairy Technology) and T.V. Ramana (Fisheries) escorted the team to the various facilities.
The performance of SVVU and the five colleges under its control are required to be reviewed and accredited once every five years, by taking stock of the quality of academic programmes, adherence to syllabus and examination pattern prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI), time table, semester system etc. The accredited institutions get 5% of their budget from the ICAR. Also, the seats from the central pool are allotted only to the accredited colleges, which makes the process all the more important.
From Wednesday, the team will visit the affiliated colleges located outside Tirupati, before submitting its final report to the national-level accreditation board.
