Kempe Gowda Jayanti celebrations see poor turnout

The birth anniversary celebrations of Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, on Wednesday witnessed noisy scenes as elected representatives skipped the event.

The district administration had organised the Kempe Gowda Jayanti celebrations at Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Kala Mandir here.

Housing and district in-charge Minister M. Krishnappa and the former Minister M.H. Ambareesh, who were asked to inaugurate and chair the programme, failed to attend. The turnout of the audience was also poor.

Subsequently, the audience expressed severe displeasure, raised slogans against the duo and questioned the district administration for their absence.

However, the officials, including Deputy Commissioner N. Majushri, remained mute spectators.

N. Shaikh Mastan, director, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences, termed Kempe Gowda as a great visionary.
