To invite Home Minister Rajnath Singh to address a public meeting

The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to up the ante with regard to the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations on Sept.17 by not only inviting the Home Minister Rajnath Singh to address a public meeting, but also take up an intensive campaign among people through a ‘Liberation Yatra’ through all the districts led by its president K. Laxman, prior to it.

BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy told presspersons at the party office - after releasing the poster and campaign material for the proposed yatra starting from Hyderabad on Sept.1 to 17 when it will end at Mahabubnagar - that the tour will touch all the areas where the Razakars had unleashed their terror on the common people and places of the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the cause and against the tyranny of the Nizam.

‘Nothing communal’

“Telangana liberation issue was taken up by our party much before the separate State agitation. It has got nothing to do with any community and there is nothing communal about celebrating the day as several Muslims had lost their lives during the movement. Yet, somehow the TRS Government does not want to officially organise it bowing to the pressure brought forth by the Majlis party,” he charged.

Mr. Reddy pointed out that the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had rebuked the Congress MLAs when Rosiah was the CM because the Congress Government was not celebrating the Liberation Day event. “What made him change his mind now? Why are they changing syllabi in education and for public service commission tests and all when it does not want to tell people about what happened in Telangana’s history?,” he wondered.

The BJP leader exhorted sarpanches of all villages across TS to hoist the national flag on Sept.17 without succumbing to the TRS Government’s stance. “We will organise it officially when we come to power,” he claimed. MLC N. Ramachander Rao and others were present. Dr. Laxman’s campaign will be flagged off after homage is paid to the Telangana Martyr’s Memorial near the Legislative Assembly.
