Programme on haematological disorders at JIPMER

Inaugurated by Dr. S. C. Parija, Director

  The treatable nature of some common haematological disorders and the advances in managing more complex conditions related to blood and bone marrow, was discussed at a continuing medical education programme at the JIPMER.

The ‘HEMAT CME 2017’ was hosted by the Departments of Pathology and Transfusion Medicine under the aegis of Pondicherry Chapter of Indian Society of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Inaugurating the day-long programme, Dr. S. C. Parija, JIPMER Director, highlighted the treatable nature of some common haematological disorders such as anaemia which had a high prevalence of about 55 % in women and 50% in pregnant women.

Dr. Parija said that management of the haematological malignancies required a combination of skill and supportive care.

Among those who participated include, Dr T. K. Dutta, Professor of Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and President of the Pondicherry chapter of ISHBT, Dr. H. P. Pati, Professor of Haematology, AIIMS, New Delhi and Editor-in-chief of Indian Journal of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Dr. N. Siddaraju, Professor and Head of Pathology, JIPMER and Organising Chairman of the CME and Dr. Rakhee Kar, Additional Professor of Pathology, JIPMER and Organising Secretary of the CME.

About 150 delegates including residents, scholars, trainees and faculty of JIPMER and other Medical colleges of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, attended the programme.

Eminent faculty who led the sessions include Dr. Rajive Kumar from AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr. Ankit Mathur from TTK Blood Bank, Bengaluru.

Puducherry and Tamil Nadu state level ISHBT quiz contest, was also held.
