The Telugu Desam Party State unit has demanded that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Government take immediate steps to fulfil the promises made to the people of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
It alleged that the Government had failed to fulfil the assurances including double bedroom houses for the poor. The TDP leaders and activists led by politbureau member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy staged a demonstration in front of the District Collectorate on Tuesday as a mark of protest.
The leaders, who assembled on the Collectorate premises, tried to march into the building, but were prevented by the police resulting in jostling between the two sides. With the police not allowing them to enter the Collectorate, the TDP leaders squatted on the road disrupting the movement of vehicular traffic for some time. Repeated requests by the police asking the agitated leaders to vacate the premises went in vain and they were lifted forcibly.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the Government vacated the poor families from the slums assuring them of double bedroom houses, but the promise had not been fulfilled till date. The Government continued to hoodwink the people in the name of constructing one lakh houses under double bedroom scheme, he alleged. The 100-day action plan announced by Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao in the run up to the GHMC polls too remained on paper, Mr. Reddy pointed out.
The condition of the civic amenities in the twin cities turned from bad to worse ever since the TRS wrested power in the municipal corporation, Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy said.
