Rowdy arrested for attacking unarmed cop

Five days after he attacked an unarmed police sub-inspector in broad daylight, rowdy Nadeem, the accused, was arrested by the police amidst high drama in the wee hours on Tuesday.

The accused, who was on the run since the incident, appeared at the office of a Kannada news channel with a slashed neck, seeking help. The staff at the news channel immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and took Nadeem into custody.

Nadeem had attacked PSI Nayaz Ahmed on August 25. Mr. Nayaz was chasing Nadeem, who was involved in a clash with his rival on the busy Shampura Main Road in D.J. Halli. Nadeem allegedly attacked Mr. Nayaz with a chopper and escaped.

The police set a massive manhunt and detained Nadeem’s family members for questioning to ascertain his whereabouts. Nadeem, who came to know about this, appeared from his hideout and sought the help of media to help him.

The police arranged for Nadeem’s treatment at a hospital and are now questioning him.
