After rumours of its launch went viral on social media, the government on Tuesday ruled out bringing back the Rs 1,000 currency note.
“There is no proposal to reintroduce 1,000 rupee note,” tweeted Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had issued a ban on the old Rs 1,000 in November last year. The government also recently put to rest the speculation that the Rs 2,000 note will be banned.
