Despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s promise to speed up investigation into the killing of scholar M.M. Kalburgi and curb the trend of “intolerance”, various progressive organisations on Tuesday went ahead with their agitation in several districts besides beginning a day and night dharna in Gadag against the delay in nabbing the culprits.

The dharna held under the aegis of ‘Dr. Kalburgi, Pansare, Dabholkar Hatya Virodhi Horata Samiti’ will conclude on Wednesday morning, which marks the second death anniversary of the scholar.

Launching the protest rally on Basaveshwara College premises, Sri Siddhalinga Swami of Tontadarya Mutt, Gadag, said that there was nothing new in the Chief Minister’s statement.

“His statement is just an eyewash. We need action, not words. The investigation should be speeded up and concrete efforts should be taken to bring the culprits to book. Only then can we believe the government,” he said.

Members of various progressive and Dalit organisations also began the day-night dharna condemning the tardy progress in investigation.
