Students allege seats were denied due to partial fee payment

A few candidates who had appeared for the mop-up round for allotment of medical and dental seats have claimed that in spite of making a partial fee payment, they have not been allotted seats.

The mop-up round for 1,440 seats began last Saturday. Many candidates had not seen the notification about the round on the website of the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). As a result, they were not able to obtain demand drafts (DDs) for the prescribed fee amount because of consecutive bank holidays. Since they would not be allowed to take part in the counselling without paying the fee, KEA allowed candidates to make payments online and through credit and debit cards.

Now, some candidates are claiming that they had made partial payment but the seat allotted to them was cancelled because they did not pay the full amount.

Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil said, “We had given clear instructions that even if partial payments were made, they should be allowed to take part in the round. KEA officials maintain that they followed instructions. I have advised these candidates to complain to the additional chief secretary of the department. She will examine the case and see if there is any merit.”
