Membersthe Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) took out a rally here on Monday in protest against imposition of Goods and Services Tax (GST) at 28 % on the labour-intensive granite units and its potential fallout on the livelihood of thousands of workers in the small-scale sector.
The rally was organised by the IFTU town committee in support of the ongoing indefinite fast called by the members of the Khammam Granite Factories Association here, demanding reduction of GST on granite units from 28 % to 5 %.
The participants raised slogans denouncing the unbearable burden posed by the GST on small-scale sector.
They demanded the rollback of the GST.
Solidarity expressed
Meanwhile, the TDP MLA from Sattupalli S. Venkata Veeraiah, CPI State assistant secretary and former Kothagudem MLA K. Sambasiva Rao and a host of other leaders of various political parties expressed their solidarity with the fasting members of the Khammam Granite Factories Association at the Dharna Chowk on Monday.
