Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan rewarded head constable Abhishek Patel with Rs.50, 000 for saving life of 400 children.
Patel ran for almost a kilometer with a 10 kilogram-bomb on his shoulder to save the lives of school children.
Head constable Patel told ANI that saving 400 lives was more important than a single life.
"I thought that 400 lives are much more valuable than a single life," he added.
On August 25, the police had received an anonymous call about the presence of an explosive in a school in Chitora village (located in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district). After the bomb was found, Patel picked it up and ran.
Before the bomb squad was to arrive at the scene, Patel lifted the 12-inch bomb, weighing around 10 kg, and put it on his shoulders and started running.
According to reports, an investigation is underway to find out who planted the bomb.
