CRPF working on new stategy to counter LWEs

With Maoists reportedly planning a new corridor in Odisha's Kalahandi-Koraput-Bolangir border, the is working on a new strategy to counter the left wing extremists (LWEs) in the state.

Director General R R Bhatnagar, who paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister here, today said that the Maoists are formulating strategies to challenge the security forces and disrupt development work in the border areas.


"There is a peculiar situation in as most of the ultras come here from other places and unleash violence. and police are working on a comprehensive strategy to address the situation," Bhatnagar said adding there might be re-deployment of the para-military forces in the state.

Bhatnagar was all in praise for govenrment and said that the cooperation betwee the and Police was very positive. "The state govenrment has fulfilled all our requirements," the DG said.

He visited the state for the first time after taking charge in April. Bhatnagar, along with the DGP K B Singh yesterday visited several naxal hit areas in Koraput and reviewed the situation in cut-off areas of Malkangiri district.

"The DG and Police paid a visit to Koraput and the Cobra battalion and reviewed the naxal scenario in the state. We also discussed on redeployment of paramilitary forces with a change in strategy in certain corridors and areas like Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Malkangiri and Koraput," DGP K B Singh said.

Apart from Singh, IG (Operation) R P Koche, IG (Bhubaneswar) Kamalanat Sharma, South-western range DIG S Saini, Koraput superintendent of police Kanwar Vishal Singh and police superintendents of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Nuapada also attended the review meeting.
