Low pressure may cause heavy rainfall in Odisha

Heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with gusty surface wind is likely to pound Odisha, which has already been lashed by rains for several days, tomorrow due to a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal Odisha, the Meteorological Centre here said in a bulletin tonight.

Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in south Odisha, while heavy rainfall may lash one or two places over the northern region of the state tomorrow, it said.

Gusty surface wind with speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph is likely to prevail along and off coast.

Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along and off coast, the office said, asking fishermen to be cautious while venturing into sea.

The forecast has come at a time when many parts of the state have been experiencing rainfall of varied intensity for the past couple of days.

Chief amounts of rainfall were recorded in districts like Kandhamal, Cuttack, Bolangir, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kendrapara, Kalahandi, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada, Koraput, Bargarh, Ganjam, Puri, Malkangiri, Keonjhar, Gajapati and Sonepur.
