Three security personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir on August 26 as militants stormed the District Police Lines in Pulwama. One militant was killed in the ongoing operation.

At least six security personnel are believed to be injured in the encounter. "An operation to flush out militants is on in the area. Firing is still on," said a police official, refusing to divulge any more details.

There is no official confirmation on the number of militants involved in the attack, which reportedly looks like a fidayeen (suicide) attack that took place around 4.30 a.m.

Preliminary reports suggest that the militants opened indiscriminate fire and stormed into the premises, which houses policemen and CRPF personnel.

The area is being sealed as more security personnel are rushed to the encounter site.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences to the families of the brave policemen. A press release by the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that he expressed his sorrow over the martyrdom of one personnel of the J & K Police and two CRPF personnel.

Two SPOs are trapped in the building where the terrorists have been cornered. Mr. Singh was hopeful that these two SPOs would be rescued soon.
