Dates of his maiden visit as the first citizen yet to be confirmed

The general hospital attached to the Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women (SPMCW), functioning under the SVIMS management, is all set to be inaugurated by President of India Ram Nath Kovind, during his tentative visit to Tirupati on September 1 and 2.

This will be the maiden visit of Mr. Kovind to the abode of Lord Venkateswara, in his capacity as the President of India. Though the visit is yet to be officially confirmed, the district administration zeroed in on the places likely to be visited by the first citizen and reviewed the arrangements.

Collector P.S. Pradyumna, SVIMS Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor T.S. Ravikumar, Sub-Collector Nishanth Kumar and MCT Commissioner in charge M. Bhagyalakshmi visited the teaching hospital complex at Alipiri and inspected the entry and exit routes and escort protocols.

The general hospital is a major facility that is all set to be inaugurated by Mr. Kovind. The huge building complex with seven floors (including the cellar) will have 42 blocks at the rate of six per floor. “Thirty-four blocks are ready now and work is on to complete the rest at the earliest,” says principal M. Hanumantha Rao.

Originally conceived as a 650-bedded hospital, the facility can immediately accommodate 400 patients after its formal inauguration. Mr. Kovind is expected to inaugurate the facility after finishing his Tirumala darshan along with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He is expected to address the public at the SVU Srinivasa auditorium.
