KOZHIKODE: The Health Department has issued advisory on the outbreak of malaria within the city corporation limits in the wake of the disease being reported frequently from the coastal belt of Payyanakkal and Puthiyappa.
In a press release issued here on Thursday, District Medical Officer V. Jayashree said that of the 29 cases reported from the areas this month, six were indigenous malaria cases, which was a matter of concern.
Indigenous cases are found among those who have not travelled outside their surroundings.
Health activists have been given instructions to keep an eye on the ground situation. An action plan to tackle eventualities was prepared at a meeting of the district task force held here recently. Fogging will be conducted in the coastal areas in association with the city corporation.
Contingency staff and health activists will conduct awareness sessions, fever survey, and door-to-door campaign in residential areas.
Intermittent fever, shivering, headache, and nausea are the main symptoms. Free treatment is available at all primary health centres and community health centres.
Ms. Jayashree said those who have fever should compulsorily get their blood test done. Self-medication should be avoided, and health activists should be informed in case if the condition persists.
Steps should be taken to avoid breeding of mosquitoes in fishing boats and plastic boxes containing fish, and wells should be covered with nets, the release added.
