City Police Commissioner P. Prakash has instructed residents to inform the police if they plan to lock up their houses and go away for a break, especially during Onam.
In a statement here, Mr. Prakash said the police would conduct special patrolling centred on these houses. Special groups under the supervision of the Circle Inspector, Sub-Inspector, Janamaithri beat inspector and other patrolling officers will make daily rounds of the house.
Shadow police
The services of Shadow police personnel would also be utilised to counter theft.
The Commissioner urged the public to make arrangements to remove newspapers from houses so as to not indicate that they were left locked up.
Besides informing neighbours about their absence, people should also give their mobile numbers so that they can be contacted in case of any emergency.
Jewellery and cash should be stored in bank lockers. Closed-circuit television cameras should not be switched off in houses with the facility.
Leaflets containing such directions would be distributed through police stations with the help of residents’ associations, the police said.
