Despite facing major competition from Bollywood film A Gentleman and other Hollywood films, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has been able to mint Rs 2.05 crores at the box office on day one of its release. If the film receives the right kind of word-of-mouth, it might end up raking in Rs 8 crore by the weekend. Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has got limited screens, which might affect the long run business of the film but if Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s words are to be trusted, the film will recover its cost.

While Nawaz has been able to grab attention with his act in the film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has not impressed critics. “Nawaz is fully immersed in his role; as is Goswami. The banter between Babu and Banke makes you smile. And then you are back to the film playing out the beats of the genre. Shoot-outs in the fields, killings with long-range rifles, sexually pumped men and women, local netas wrestling for power, local cops on the take, and curvaceous women on the make. It’s all there, but we’ve seen it all, or variations of it, before,” Shubhra Gupta said in her review.

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz marks Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s fifth film this year. So far, the actor has appeared in two films as solo lead while in others he has shared screen space with big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Sridevi and Tiger Shroff in Raees, MOM and Munna Michael, respectively.

The actor was recently seen in Carbon, a short film also starring Prachi Desai and Jackky Bhagnani. And soon would comeback on the silver screen as a lead with Nandita Das’ Manto.
