After introducing app-based cab services at Salem and Coimbatore junctions, the Salem division of Southern Railways today launched the service at Coimbatore North and Podanur stations.

The service not only helps rail passengers avail of last mile connectivity without much hassle, but also protects them from being exploited by those offering drop services just outside the station.

While Jayakumaran Nair, Station Manager, Podanur launched the service at the station there, Raveendran, Station Manager, Coimbatore North, introduced it in Coimbatore (N) this morning.

Eagle Fleet Services will operate the service through Go Taxi and Red Taxi, a release from Southern Railway, Salem Division said.

The annual earnings of these two contracts is expected at around Rs 16 lakh per annum.

About 850 cars are to be deployed for the services. In Podanur, an area of 480 sq mt and in Coimbatore North, an area of 400 sq mt. has been allotted for parking the fleet of app-based cab services.
