Since the revival of monsoon over Maharashtra since August 15, more than half of the state is still waiting to get its average rainfall this season, a report of the India Meteorological Department, Delhi, has said.
The IMD, Pune, meanwhile, this evening predicted more showers across the state.
Twenty-eight out of the 36 districts have received less than normal rainfall since June 1.
Sixteen districts including ten in Vidarbha region are still 'rainfall deficient' while the other twelve districts have received slightly less than normal rains.
The overall rain deficiency in Vidarbha is 28 per cent, followed by Marathwada at 11 per cent, central Maharashtra at eight per cent and Mumbai and Konkan at nine percent.
However, the rains last week have been promising. Between August 17 to 23, the rainfall in Vidarbha was two per cent above the average.
Marathwada received 168 per cent of the average rainfall in the same period, highest in the state, followed by central Maharashtra (101 per cent).
Overall, since June 1, Pune and Nashik districts have received the maximum rains till August 23. Pune received 936.4 mm of rainfall, 44 per cent more than its average. Nashik received 945.9 mm rainfall, against average 669.9 mm.
Gondia, in Vidarbha, has been the most rain-deficient district. Against its average of 923.8 mm during June 1 to August 23, it has received only 559.8 mm rains.
Amravati is the second worst affected district with 361.5 mm rainfall against the average 584.6 mm.
