A 73-year-old person was killed when he was hit by the official car of the president of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat at Kaup on Wednesday.
According to the Kaup police, Chandu was trying to cross the National Highway 66 when the official car carrying the president of the Zilla Panchayat, Dinakar Babu, which was moving from Udupi to Uchila, hit him.
Since Chandu was severely injured, Mr. Babu rushed him in his car to the Government Hospital in Kaup.
After preliminary treatment there, Chandu was then taken in an ambulance for further treatment to the District Government Hospital in Udupi, where the doctors pronounced him dead.
A case had been registered, the police said.
