RPF staff deployed at stations in Ratnagiri region to tackle heavy passenger rush

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has taken special measures to beef up the security during Ganeshotsav, the most popular festival in the Konkan region.

The measures have been taken to cater to the heavy rush of passengers in the Ratnagiri region, and to make travel convenient, comfortable and safe for passengers, said L.K. Verma, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Konkan Railway, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The festival is set to begin on Friday.

A company of Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF), comprising around 100 armed staff, has been deployed in the Ratnagiri region along with the RPF staff for crowd control and maintaining law and order. RPF staff from other Konkan Railway regions have also been deployed at major stations.

Extra closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed at Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali and Sawantwadi railway stations, in addition to the existing 151 CCTV cameras across the region.

RPF officials are distributing advisory pamphlets among passengers in trains and at stations, warning them about thefts and other dangers.

The Railway Protection Force staff have also been sensitised to respond quickly to messages received through social media platforms like Twitter as well as on the all-India security helpline 182.

Besides this, 74 home guards will assist the RPF personnel.

Police authorities have also assured of assistance in maintaining law and order, said Mr. Verma.
