Big day for Indian badminton stars as they play their pre-quarterfinals at the World Badminton Championships in Glasgow. Big names like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will be in action on the court. Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth will also like to continue their winning run at the Championships. Nehwal has tough opponent in Sung Ji Hyun while Sindhu faces Ngan Yi Cheung. In the men’s singles, Srikanth is up against Andres Antosen while Jayaram will face Chen Long. 06.25 pm: Srikanth wins! This is the Indian’s 13th win on a trot as he enters BWC quarterfinals after defeating Antonsen 21-14, 21-18. Srikanth has maintained a clean, smooth record despite a solid fight by the Denmark player. With this, Srikanth records the first win of the day for India.
06.15 pm: Pranaav Chopra & Sikki Reddy go down 22-20, 18-21, 18-21 to 6th ranked Indonesian pair Susanto-Jordan after a duel of 63 minutes. It was a tough nail-biting match which ended in a heartbreak for the Indians. Kidambi is 4 points away from a win..
06.08 pm: Srikanth maintains the lead 11-3 at the break of the second game. Meanwhile Chopra-Reddy match against Indonesia’s Susanto-Jordan is turning out to be a nail-biting clash as both the teams stand at 18-18.
05.55 pm: Srikanth wins the first game 21-14 in 17 minutes! A fabulous start for India as both Chopra-Reddy and Srikanth win their first game. Although Chopra-Reddy lost the second game, let us hope Srikanth wins his third successive match in the tournament in straight sets. Chopra-Reddy take the lead 16-15 in the third game.
05.44 pm: Srikanth takes court 3. It is a thrilling start as both stood at 3-3 before the Indian took a slight lead. The Denmark player Anderes Antosen makes it tougher for Srikanth to enjoy the lead for long as he makes it 6-6. Meanwhile, Chopra and Reddy lose the second game 21-18 against the Indonesian pair.
05.28 pm: Good start to the day for India as Chopra and Reddy win the first game 22-20 after a thrilling neck to neck performance against Susanto and Jordan.
05.19 pm: A strong start from India but Indonesia’s Debby Susanto & Praveen Jordan come back to make it 16-13.
