McConnell - Republicans working with Trump on 'shared goals'

Reuters  |  WASHINGTON

(Reuters) - Senate Majority Leader Mitch said on Wednesday that he and his team were in "regular contact" with President Donald to discuss "shared goals" such as infrastructure and taxes.

The statement came after media reports this week of tensions between the Republican president and McConnell, the top Republican in the U.S. Senate.

"The President and I, and our teams, have been and continue to be in regular contact about our shared goals," said in a statement that also cited support for the military and veterans and U.S. strategy against Islamic State.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we are committed to advancing our shared agenda together and anyone who suggests otherwise is clearly not part of the conversation," said.
