South Central Railway (SCR) accords top priority to safety and preventive maintenance followed by punctuality and amenities with all the top officials personally undertaking inspections of different wings.
“Safety and cleanliness are very important to us with principal heads getting involved and holding counselling sessions for the loco-pilots, station masters, way inspectors and gate men,” said general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav on Thursday.
“Our safety record in this zone is very good and we want to continue it. We are checking for weaknesses and rectify them as lot of effort is being taken to ensure all assets are maintained properly by taking up regular inspections,” he told presspersons at the Nampally Railway Station.
Mr. Yadav went round the station to check for cleanliness, sanitation and also the safety aspects accompanied by senior officials as part of the ongoing cleanliness drive. The GM attributed most accidents to either human or technical issues. “Indian Railways has a vast network and several mishaps also occur due to trespassing. Hence, we are trying to sensitise the road users besides our own staff to be more vigilant,” he said. The Railway Board has also cleared the deck for filling up the 15% vacant posts in the Zone, he revealed to another question.
Earlier, Mr. Yadav reviewed on-the-track maintenance practices and interacted with the engineering staff, trackmen and others, and over saw the drills that were adopted. The signalling cabin, coach depot, etc., were examined. He also enquired the passengers about the food quality and sanitation before inspecting the stalls, waiting halls. Addressing personnel at the safety seminar , he appreciated the video recording of coaches to examine any shortcomings.
