‘50% work of the project almost over’

With 50 % work on Command and Communication Centre at GVMC scheduled to be completed by the year-end and civil work almost over, it will start functioning with full-fledged staff from then. It will be ready in all respects by February next.

Giving an overview of the Smart City projects, Municipal Commissioner M Hari Narayanan said the total number of projects was 27 and with their division for execution the number was 43. People voted overwhelmingly for resilient city so disaster management got top preference followed by health, he said.

Of them, 11 were pan-city and 32 would be taken up in the Area-based Development (ADB) under Smart City project.

The total estimated cost of the projects is ₹ 1887 crore. The projects included convergence in the ADB area with housing for all, shore protection, beach beautification, underground cabling, among other things, Mr. Hari Narayanan told reporters here.

The Integrated Command and Communication Centre being set up at a cost of ₹179 crore itself was a convergence of six projects including disaster management, e-governance with 100 % ERP solutions, smart poles, sensors, underground bins with solid waste management solutions, GPS bus stops and buses, traffic signals and CCTV surveillance and the Central Command and Monitoring System (CCMS) for street lights being integrated with the centre.

The first phase of work would be completed by October with infrastructure being ready.
