Two years after their 'Praktan' became a blockbuster, the 90s' hit pair in Bengali cinema Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta are teaming up again in a Kaushik Ganguly film 'Dristikone'.
Director Kaushik Ganguly said that the pair would not carry the superstar baggage in his film; they would be just actors who most fitted the roles.
Happy at being cast opposite Rituparna once again, Prosenjit said that every actor wished to act in a film by Kaushik Ganguly, who had stepped into the shoes of Rituparno Ghosh whose untimely death had left a void.
"He has his own niche audience. Almost every year his film figures in the category of national awards and in the IFFI's Indian Panorama section. I am extremely choosy these days in picking up roles, but I wanted to work with him," the popular actor told PTI.
"It is, however, another matter that the director was not taking me," he said with a grin.
Ganguly said that the audience profile had changed and evolved since the time when the "hit jodi" turned up in potboilers.
"Bengali cinema itself has changed over the years. When the audience will come to see Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta paired together in my film, they will look for a new perspective," the film-maker, who has anchored several award-winning films including the latest 'Bisarjon' and 'Apur Panchali', said.
Asked if the film will be more realistic than 'Praktan' by Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay and Nandita Roy, who had cast the hit pair after a gap of 14 years, Prosenjit said, "We sometimes unnecessarily brand films as middle-of-the-road, mainstream or art-house making very little sense."
"How will you label Kaushik's last film Bisarjon? Was it not an entertainer? What about Rituparno Ghosh's Utsav which had run for 25 weeks? What about Unishe April (1994) by Rituparno? All film makers want to do good films.
