MVD launches 49 vehicles equipped with modern gadgets to detect violations

Erring motorists in the State are to come under the scanner of the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) with 49 vehicles equipped with modern gadgets to detect violations being pressed to tighten the enforcement and ensure road discipline and reduce road accidents.

Of the 49 vehicles, 17 are interceptors equipped with the latest 180 degree wide angle DVR camera that can detect violations like use of mobile phone while driving, driving without wearing seat belt and helmet and rash driving without stoppage of the vehicle on the roadside.

The cameras installed in the interceptors, purchased with ₹4.25 crore from the funds of the Kerala Road Safety Authority, will capture the pictures of offence, and generate the notice to the owner of the vehicle through the Smart-Enfo software after verifying the name, address, tax token and fitness certificate from the server.

Notice with proof

The notice enclosing the proof of the offence and penalty to be remitted to the MVD will reach the motorist through email and SMS.

The visuals captured by the DVR camera in interceptors will come in handy for the law enforcing agencies to analyse and to make changes in road geometrics and traffic flow in the road corridors, says State Transport and Road Safety Commissioner Anil Kant.

Besides, the vehicles will have the modern radar to detect speeding, lux meter to detect headlight violations, breath analyser to catch drunk driving, opacity meter to find the transparency of the windows and decibel meter to detect the intensity of the horns. Already 34 enforcement squads with each having a MVI and two AMVI’s had been deployed by the MVD across the State.

The 32 other vehicles were procured for the MVD by the State at a cost of ₹2.8 crore. The vehicles were flagged off by Minister for Transport Thomas Chandy in the presence of Anil Kant, Joint Transport Commissioner, Enforcement, Rajeev Pathalath and senior MVD official at the Police Grounds here on Wednesday.
