Showtime has acquired rare footage from rock legend Prince's 'Sign O' the Times' concert.

The network will air the rarely seen video on September 16, according to Variety.

The snippet was created as a companion to the critically-acclaimed album of the same name, featuring songs such as "If I was your girlfriend" and "Little red Corvette".

The film was directed by Prince, yet it remained unreleased on DVD.

Much of the footage was filmed at the "Purple Rain" singer's Paisley Park Studios. It is supplemented with shots from concerts in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Prince died on April 21 last year due to fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park recording studio at the age of 57.
