A plastic ball with explosive powder was found near the parking lot of a mosque at Kalavasal junction in Madurai on Thursday morning.
Madurai city police bomb detection and disposal personnel recovered the ball that was found torn and samples of the black powder that was seen strewn on the ground of the Eidgah Mosque. This mosque is part of Kazimar Big Mosque.
Imam Shajahan told newsmen that since the ball looked suspicious he alerted the police. One of the men who was returning home after offering the early morning prayers noticed it and alerted an Imam.
The Karimedu police are investigating.
