Asks mandalam committee to check whether panchayat granted licence illegally

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has asked the Koodaranhi Mandalam Congress Committee to submit a detailed report within five days over the granting of licence by the Koodaranhi grama panchayat to the Kakkadampoyil water theme park owned by P.V. Anvar, MLA.

This followed KPCC president M.M. Hassan’s consultations with Kozhikode District Congress Committee president T. Siddique, grama panchayat president Solly Josephand Koodaranhi and mandalam president Jose Pallikunnel among others at the Kozhikode guest house on Monday night.

Mr. Siddique said the mandalam president had been asked to look into issues such as whether the grama panchayat had illegally granted licence to the water theme park. He had been asked to inquire whether the panchayat had bent laws to allow Mr. Anvar to construct the park violating ecological laws.

He said the panchayat president and the members had stated that the water theme park had obtained No Objection Certificates from the Kerala State Pollution Control Board and clearances from the Town Planner and the Department of Fire and Rescue Services. They said that Mr. Anvar had submitted all documents, Mr. Siddique said.

However, the DCC president said that the KPCC wanted to know whether the park caused environment pollution and whether rules had been flouted to suit the legislator.
