Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) national general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty, MP, said here on Tuesday that the issue of triple talaq should be discussed thoroughly in Parliament before making any legislation on it.
He said his party would support the stand of the Muslim Personal Law Board on the issue. “We are hopeful that the Muslim Personal Law Board will coordinate the discussion with Muslim organisations from across the country,” he said.
Mr. Kunhalikutty called upon society to exercise caution against the possible misuse of the Supreme Court verdict as a political weapon. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had widely misused the triple talaq discourse as a political weapon for winning elections. “If the BJP is sincere in its criticism against triple talaq, the Union government should be ready to debate the matter in Parliament.”
