T'gana oppn parties meet Prez; seeks action against police brutality

The incident relates to arrest of eight persons last month at Nerella in the district for allegedly torching a sand -laden truck, which was involved in a road accident, causing the death of a person.

"We request you to direct the Director General of Police, State to take cognisance of the case and direct the police officials to register cases under SC/ST POA Act against the SP and the police officials who have tortured.

"Institution of an independent enquiry and provide proper compensation and protection to the victims and their family members," the memorandum said.

It also alleged that and SCs were tortured at the behest of sand-mafia contractors.

MLA and state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy was also part of the delegation.
